Abstract

Molecular risk testing: A smarter system for thyroid cancer care. Oliver Bathe, Professor of Surgery and Oncology at the University of Calgary and CEO of Qualisure Diagnostics, calls for policymakers to support molecular risk testing to improve patient care and reduce the healthcare costs associated with thyroid cancer treatment. The article addresses how current risk assessment tools for papillary thyroid cancer often lead to overtreatment and explains how Thyroid GuidePx® classifies tumors by recurrence risk before surgery, helping clinicians match treatment intensity to each patient’s true risk. It also outlines the test’s financial and equity implications and makes the case for broader payer recognition of molecular prognostic tools as the standard of care.
